Possibly useful for personal trainers and advanced bodybuilders, others should give it a pass. Doesn't work on Kindle device.

What do you get for a hundred bucks? Basically web bibliography pointing to articles the author has written for sites like testosterone nation.

Should that matter? Well, organizing and presenting that online material in a systematic way in theory has value, the problem is that so much of that material is written in bodybuilder jargon, e.g. " Using a traditional hip hinge like the RDL or the stiff-leg deadlift, work the descent of the movement with increased time under eccentric loading," or "... just think of turning the dumbbell shrug movement into a mosh pit at a Slip Knot concert. Don't be that guy." This certainly *sounds* like useful device, but for $100 I expect an author to put a little more effort into explaining himself, especially as he's pitched the "book" as being useful to people with only modest levels of experience.

This book has basically no illustrations or explanations; just a bunch of links to web articles/videos along with a few terse notes on proper execution that are likely only useful to someone already very familiar with the exercises. In some cases the advice requires the assistance of a personal trainer to execute (e.g. finding out exactly how far you can safely squat based on your personal anatomy with the aid of a goniometer).

Given that the Amazon description suggests this is (a) a book and (b) useful to people with only basic levels of experience, I'd be inclined to give it one star. However I'm giving it an additional star as benefit of the doubt; it seems like something that might be useful to a few people. I suggest that you google "John Rusin" on the site t-nation dot com. If these articles are useful to you individually, paying $100 to have them organized into some semblance of a program is probably a good deal. For most people it's an absurd amount of money to pay to be pointed to a bunch of web articles that probably won't mean much to them.

One final point: the ebook production values are extremely crude. It is in "Print Replica" format, which is basically just a dump of a printout (badly typeset) and DOES NOT WORK on a Kindle device -- not that that really matters since the real content is actually on the web in formats the Kindle can't handle. However the book doesn't work on the web reader either, and is extremely awkward to use on the Amazon Kindle app for Android (the links are at the bottom of the page and so attempting to access them most of the time 8/10 times brings up the page browser UI instead -- very frustrating). Basically it's only convenient to use in Amazon's desktop reader app for Mac or PC. For the price, and given the academic qualifications of the author, I was expecting an superbly produced book, not what seems more like a printout of someone's class notes.

Solid book with no "bs."

It was a good book with all of the fundamentals one needs to get great results in their fitness program based on their goals. A nice chapter on dietary advice helps the novice understand calories in relation to their personal goals as well. Being a personal trainer for over eight years, I was very pleased with this book and would recommend it to my clients.

Great finale to a wonderful series!!!!

I absolutely love authors who know when enough is enough and they wrap everything up in a nice neat little package with a big red bow on top!! This is exactly what Ms. Saquea did with this series. Every open ended question we were left with in books 1 & 2 were answered satisfactorily and nothing was left out in limbo for us to wonder about. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and the character. My level of commiseration and true understanding of these characters really didn't cement together for me until this final part. What I mean by that is Jacole irritated my very soul. She is one of those people that you like because they have a big heart, they are selfless, are always dependable, willing to go over and beyond for their family and friends but at the same time when you look at their lives they make some of the most asinine decisions. I truly for the life of me could not understand why she continuously set herself up to be hurt by Zeek. Now I know us women, when we are in love we will do some dumb stuff but I would like to think that there is BS meter internally built within each of us to say enough is enough. There is absolutely no way in the world that I would have taken Zeek back after he showed up after months of no communication with a whole live wife. Now in no shape, form, or fashion does that take away from the perfection of Ms. Saquea's storytelling abilities that's just my little personal observation. That danggone Zeek was the most bullheaded, rudest, selfish, impulsive man that I've read about in a very long time. It was as if he could be calculating and methodical when dealing with his business dealings, but when it came to women his brain turned to mush and he made mistake, after mistake, after mistake!! He just couldn't get it right. His mother whom I absolutely loved gave it to his behind straight with no chaser by reading him up one side and down the other. All of the supporting cast members issues were neatly resolved. I was happy to see that Jayquala finally had something positive to come!e out of all of the misfortune she had suffered. If anyone deserved happiness it was her. I liked the fact that Jayquala and Tariq's child's mother were able to coexist in each others lives for the sake of their children and she seemed genuine in wanting Tariq and Jay to make their relationship work. That Nina made me want to go back to my old ways because she was begging for a good old fashioned stomping(in the name of Jesus of course lol) the moment she stepped foot into the story. In the end she and her arrogant father got exactly what they deserved. (Of course his fate wasn't specifically spelled out in the story but we all know what is understood doesn't have to be explained lol). Again this was a really good series and Ms. Saquea did an excellent job. Buy it, Buy it, Buy it and I promise you can't go wrong with choosing this authors work.

Great Series

I almost forgot about this series. Not happy with Zeek and how he treated Coco even though they did end up together. The fact that he stated to Coco he only married Nina due to an arrangement, but left out the part that he was still sleeping with her just seemed foul to me. I just felt like he got off too easy and didn't deserve her. I also felt Jay was foul for what she did. I felt that she was immature. It didn't make sense. She really had mental issues. I'm glad her and Ric worked out. I liked Shanae's character growth. I was expecting that from the main characters. Also, what happened with Ishy??? That was a loose end that should have been addressed. Besides that, I enjoyed the series.

Ok so this was just ok for me. There was just way too much back and forth. Nina and Zeek, Ishmael and Coco. Like come on if Zeek and Coco were so in love, how was it so easy to jump into other relationships. Especially for Coco with a baby involved. Zeek should've been able to keep it together and been laying low in Cuba instead of thinking with his small head. Jaliyah was just an immature selfish lil heffer in this book. Then had a total change of heart and overlooked the fact that she caught "fiance" with someone else. Yeah not buying it at all. Everyone gets their Hea, but I don't remember anyone addressing the fact that Ishmael burnt Coco's place down. What's up with that?

This is one of a series of "What Research Has to Say About..." books. They are an easy and efficient way to get a handful of top research articles by the top in the field. This book is a good start to finding out what research has to say, but it is only a beginning. The most up to date information will not be in book form. In addition, all of these articles can be found by doing a data base search in any college library.

A great tool for improvment

The Staright-A Conspiracy hits home with me.

What I liked:

+ It is a book which everyone can pick up.
+ It has a lot of insight and offers great explanations (even though I myself found it to be almost too thurrow).
+ Demonstrates the potential of every person and really convinces the reader that they, as well as everyone else, can pursuit and achieve greatness.

What I thought could be improved:

- The Straight-A conspiracy has a lot of small boxes with "interesting" and vaguely related facts. I myself found some of them amusing, but they were, generally, just distracting.
- (I cannot believe I am writing this, but) The book tries too hard to be easy to read. It talks directly to the reader in a almost silly way from time to time.

Overall, it is a book I wish I would have read five years ago; however, even to a student at university, such as myself, the book was a good read. If you are struggling with school or just generally want to improve your outlook on learning new things, this is one of many books which might help you.

Excellent high School Text

I teach a high school course for struggling students. These are kids who have tremendous aptitude but have lost confidence in their ability to be good students. They think of themselves as not smart, bad at math, and believe those "facts" will never change. Reading this book together has transformed their stinking thinking and given them simple tools to begin turning those grades around. Understanding that practice is what makes a genius and that all information was once new to everyone on earth has given them hope that they, too, can master everything from Algebra to Elizabethan sonnets. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

Full of gems

This is a book, I wish like the lottery I had as a kid. I am a video gaming, internet addicted, collegiate C student and part time athlete. Although with shame I admit, for the first time in my adult life, I can say I read a book front to back multiple times just for myself. Not only is it full of "Aha" insight, it's easy to read. This is especially true for someone frustrated with learning complex new things well, or quickly (I'm pointing to myself). If you can't get your kid to read it, read it for them or read it to them. We need this type of wisdom as a country and as a species. Thank you Hunter Maats for breaking down and spelling out this problem. This is a well priced book. The delivery was also very satisfying.

Essential reading for any Madness fan

John Reed presents a history from the band's origins as the North London Invaders in 1976 to their breakup in 1986, through their reunion at Madstock in 1992 up to the band's 2009 magnum opus "The Liberty of Norton Folgate." The author doesn't make any judgments, but rather presents the good with the bad and lets the reader draw his or her own conclusions. I'm a diehard Madness fan, and I love them even more after reading this book.

The Ultimate Madness Story

This book is the ultimate Madness story for fans. Written long after the band broke up, it doesn't whitewash their story like books written during their heyday might have. It's extensive and honest. It provides an interesting look at the bands beginnings, their popularity during the 80s, and what they've been up to since then.

Tells you both everything and nothing about Madness

On page 235 of this book the author writes "It's difficult to ascertain whether Barson's decision [to quit the band] was due to [...] or [...] or [...] or [...] or a combination of the above". Think about this for a moment - a 536 page book about Madness and the author cannot explain one of the key - if not the key - events in the band's history. The problem here is that Reed did not actually speak to any of the members of the band while writing this book, instead relying on previously published interviews, the opinions of members of their entourage, and even album sleeve notes. What you end up with is a meticulous list of things that Madness did but without any real insight or understanding of why they did them. Shame really, as Reed displays an obvious fondness for the band and an eye for detail elsewhere. However, I've heard that Suggs' recently published autobiography does not delve too deeply into the workings of Madness, so this might be the best study of the Nutty Boys on the market. For the time being, anyway.

This book was an excellent tool for my Training Methods class. There were several sections on new training methods, and explained in easy to understand terms, the proper methodology in developing a training program. I would recommend this for anyone needing help in developing a training manual, or who needs general guidelines on setting up a training program for others.

Don't Even Consider Unless Commanded To By a Professor

You will probably be purchasing this book for the same reason I did: you are in some kind of advanced degree program, and it's required for the course. And that would be the only reason I would condone buying it.

This book is dry, folks. And it's filled with little gems like "employees learn more from training programs they enjoy." Oh really? REALLY??
