People often dream about learning a foreign language, but never do. Whatever the reason is, it's time to set it aside and with my new method, you will have enough time and you will not fail. You will actually learn how to speak the fundamentals of the language, and speak the language fluently in as little as a few days. Of course you won't speak perfect Arabic at first, but you will certainly gain significant proficiency. For example, if you travel to the Lebanon or an Arabic Speaking country, you will almost effortlessly be able engage in basic 'fluent' communication with the locals, and you will no longer be intimidated with culture shock. It's time to relax. Learning a language is a valuable skill and a form of communication that connects people of multiple cultures around the world.

How does my method work? Well, I have taken twenty-seven of the most used languages and distilled out of them the 350 most commonly used words in any language. This whole process took three years of observation and research, and during that time I have determined which words I felt were most important for this method of basic 'fluent' communication. In that time, I chose these words in such a way that they are structurally interrelated, and when combined, they form sentences. Thus once you succeed in memorizing them, then you will be able to combine these words and form your own sentences. The words are spread over 20 pages.

The words will also correspond easily in sentences, for example, enabling you to be able to ask simple questions, Introduction to the Program etc. I have also created Memorization Made Easy techniques for this program in order to help with the memorization of the vocabulary (Page #13). Please also see page #15, in order to gain proficiency in the Reading and Pronunciation of the Arabic Language, prior to starting this program. My book is intended for basic 'first person' vocal communication, meaning anyone can easily use it to 'get by' linguistically while visiting a foreign country, without learning the entire language. You will be 100 percent understandable to native speakers, which is your aim. One disclaimer: this is NOT a grammar book, though it does address minute and essential grammar rules (but keep your eyes peeled for grammar footnotes at the bottom of every page of the program). Therefore, understanding complex sentences with obscure words in the language is outside the scope of this book.

People who have tried this method have been successful. In this program the Arabic Language is translated into Latin Alphabets (English Transliteration), so it is not a requirement to know the written form beforehand. By the time you finish this book, you will be almost entirely fluent and understandable in the Lebanese Arabic. This is the best basis to learn, not only the Arabic language but any language. THIS IS AN ENTIRELY REVOLUTIONARY NO-FAIL CONCEPT, and your ability to place all the pieces of the puzzle together, will come with GREAT ease.

Lebanese Arabic is a Levantine dialect. The term Levantine derives from "Levant" which is the geographical region of the Eastern Mediterranean which encompasses Cyprus, Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and the Hatay Province of Southern Turkey. Several languages are spoken in the Levant, one of which is Lebanese Arabic. Lebanese Arabic descends from the traditional Arabic language, though there are many variables that affected the language's development. Most Lebanese speak the language, and Arabic remains its written form, despite past attempts by some to make an alphabet system using Latin letters. Some people view Lebanese as merely a dialect of Arabic, while others accept the language as unique. Either way, the word connotations vary in both languages, as does its syntax and vocabulary. Lebanese Arabic uses minute Turkish and Aramaic vocabulary and a little French. In general keep in mind Lebanese Arabic is not an official language, but rather a colloquial dialect.

the best technique to learn the language fast.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to speak arabic, since all my close friends are arabs, so I always wanted to talk to them in Arabic and share in on the inside jokes. I’ve tried many courses and books but they all were traditional Arabic and every time I tried to talk to my friends, they would laugh at me and say that i’m speaking in classical written arabic.
Just a few weeks ago I borrowed this book from a friend of mine and it has been amazing, the technique is so easy to follow with parallel sentences and english and arabic words next to each other, I started understanding how Arabic is spoken!
I also showed it to my Lebanese friend who thought that the book was really impressive and focused more on the speaking part of it.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to speak and talk in Arabic. It is the best technique to learn the language fast.

While at first glance one might have reservations about such a radical idea, author Richard Salva painstakingly and exhaustively takes the reader on a spiritual adventure, comparing the lives of the president and the famous flyer, and makes a very strong, convincing argument in favor of his theory, in terms of life events, similar thought processes and reactions to life experiences, and even similarity of names. The theory behind the book was inspired by the words of yoga master Paramhansa Yogananda.

Point by point, Salva, an author and minister, brings up parallel scenes from the lives of Lincoln and Lindbergh. In a very convincing chapter, Salva compares the two great men's ladies: Lincoln's Ann Rutledge, who died before they could be married, and Lindbergh's Anne Morrow: each was a delicate beauty with dark hair and blue eyes, each petite at five foot-two, each woman twenty-two to the suitor's twenty-six. Salva discusses how the disappointment of Rutledge's death and the following, less-than-happy marriage to the emotionally unstable Mary Todd Lincoln, might have found its fulfilment in the happier, more stable marriage of Lindbergh and Anne Morrow.

Certainly the whole cycle of reincarnation as it applies to the rest of us is addressed in a brilliant way. Comparing the lives of Lincoln and Lindbergh is a marvelously educational model of the theory of reincarnation at work. Salva discusses how a soul may not necessarily incrementally improve in each lifetime, but may slip back a bit here and there, like a line on a 'reasonably successful business's financial chart.' He describes the life of Charles Lindbergh as 'Lincoln on vacation.' Fascinating glimpses of the spiritual lives of these men emerge, and the gift of the author is to make the reader feel as if he knows these great men intimately. At one point, the author offers a comparison of a quote of Lincoln's 'The world shall know that I keep my faith to my friends and enemies, come what will,' as a heartrending parallel to Lindbergh's refusal to use marked bills in order to keep faith with his son's kidnappers.

The author offers so many fascinating ideas and aspects of the two men's lives that the reader will probably want to continue investigating on his or her own. Salva has included a bibliography of source material just in case the reader chooses to do just that.

Even those who do not subscribe to the idea of reincarnation will find the book most rewarding for the extensive historical work that Salva has achieved. Eight years ago, I began to study the evidence that Lincoln and Lindbergh were the same soul. I pored over dozens of books in search of aspects of their lives and characters that might suggest the truth of Yogananda's statement, including signs of a past-life familiarity with the teachings of yoga. I studied old newspapers and magazines and visited sites where Lincoln and Lindbergh had lived, and I interviewed historians and experts.

What I discovered was simply amazing.

When I began this project, I didn't know what to expect. I thought perhaps I'd find a few interesting connections--but I found hundreds! Again and again, there were unmistakable connections: resemblances in their physical forms, thoughts, feelings, spiritual aspirations, friendships, and the circumstances and events of their lives. The depth and quantity of the evidence persuaded me that if Lindbergh wasn't Lincoln reborn--he should have been! The ties between them shed light on karma and reincarnation, making them vividly real.

this book reads like it is fiction

This was an interesting book with an interesting concept of investigating historical evidence for reincarnation through comparative biography, a comparative biography of Lincoln and Lindbergh. Unfortunately, this book reads like it is fiction, as if using fictional anecdotes describing similarities between Lincoln and Lindbergh, because the author usually only paraphrased his biographical sources, seemingly simplifying his biographical sources, seldom directly quoted his biographical sources, evidently ignorantly afraid of copyright violations, and worse, seldom or almost never included any direct references or footnotes or end notes to indicate his exact sources for his anecdotes, although the author listed his source bibliography. Cannot be described as scholarly, but merely popular level writing.

I did not care at all for this book. There's too much speculation and the so called first person accounts appear to be made up, just to get into print. It's really unbelievable. I have read many books on the subject so I do have something to compare with. I couldn't finish it. I gave it to someone else and even they didn't like it.

About the Author
Steve Cohen has been a pioneer in non-linear post-production, editing one of the first Avid TV movies (HBO's "Teamster Boss") and then going on to edit the first studio feature to use Avid's Film Composer ("Lost in Yonkers") while helping to develop the company's 24-fps software. He remained closely connected with Avid for many years and eventually cofounded the Avid Editors Advisory Committee, a group of prominent editors that advises Avid about software features. He has worked as a teacher throughout his professional life and was the first chairman of the editing department at the American Film Institute, the first school in the U.S. to offer an MFA in editing. He later helped create, and was the publisher of the Editors Guild Magazine. His book, "Avid Agility," now in its third edition, evolved out of his deep involvement with the development of the Avid system.

His credits include, "Before the Rains," "Material Girls," "The Prince and Me," "15 Minutes," "Blood and Wine," "Three Wishes," "Angie," "Rambling Rose" and "No Man's Land," as well as many pilots and TV movies, including several in the Jesse Stone series. He received an Emmy for "LBJ: The Early Years," an American Cinema Editors Eddie Award for "Don King: Only in America," and A.C.E.'s distinguished Robert Wise Award for writing about editing. I haven't met Steven Cohen, but after reading his book, Avid Agility ($36.88), I feel like I have. Cohen was a pioneer in nonlinear editing, cutting the first studio feature to use Avid (Lost in Yonkers). He's taught at the AFI, was publisher of the Editor's Guild magazine and co-founded the Avid Editor's Advisory Committee. And, now, he's published the most ambitious and comprehensive book on Avid Media Composer I've read. (Avid should include this with every Composer system sold).

This book could have had a number of other titles: "Avid Demystified," "Avid Revealed," or "Flying with Avid." I can promise you one thing... should you get this book, and I highly advise you do if you're a Media Composer editor, rookie or old pro, "Avid Agility" will make you a better editor, guaranteed.

This is much more than a operating manual or how-to -- it's like having a seasoned pro sitting next to you, revealing his trade secrets, explaining and enlightening you, all for the cost of a book.

In 236 jam-packed pages, Cohen has managed to take us on a very personalized trip through an admittedly complex and often baffling tool that has had its share of supporters and detractors. He shows us tips and tricks, shortcuts and gotchas, and reveals secrets that explain in concise and colorful prose and illustrations the versatile ways Media Composer can and should be used. He explains it in a straightforward manner that doesn't talk down or overcomplicate understanding.

Frankly, it's no secret that we editors are often stingy with our secrets and methods... admittedly, it's one of our worst traits, mea culpa. So for Cohen to have opened up decades of know-how and tips and tricks to advance our skill set is fantastic, and it only benefits us to take advantage of the opportunity.

"Avid Agility" is up-to-date with Media Composer 5, and covers just about all new aspects and features. Every page has some new shortcut or feature that you previously may have bypassed or neglected. Editing, speed and keyboard shortcuts can make the difference between you or another editor getting the job or not. With Cohen's vast array of shift, control and command shortcuts, methodology and approach, new levels of speed and versatility can be achieved.

I started learning new things almost immediately about the ins and outs of Media Composer that I didn't know (or ignored) after almost 21 years of cutting on it. The breadth of coverage is huge. From an in-depth look at Media Composer's interface, through the Smart Tool, new approaches of media management, color correction, audio mixing, toolsets and workspaces, to explaining Composer's new complex but powerful advanced keyframing model -- his concise explanations detail not only how to use it, but why it beats the old keyframing model.

Cohen uses detailed graphics to show us highlights in the keyboard or user interface that match precisely what he's explaining in text. Rather than just tell us,"This is how it's done," Cohen shows us why he does things the way he does. Much of his methodology is outside the box -- bypassing Avid's conventional wisdom.

For example, Cohen shows us a much more efficient and precise way to consolidate media in order to copy media over from one system to another that works better than Avid's own consolidate function. He explains things that aren't found in Avid's manuals or online help centers -- problems and solutions that are garnered from years of his own experience. His customization tips alone are worth the price of the book: things that may seem obvious, but that we've never done, like programming the mouse to enable functions that took multiple keystrokes, or that additional functions can be mapped to the keyboard that aren't listed in the manual or command palette.

There's no stone left unturned. It's hard to understand how he got so much into this book. There are literally hundreds of tips to be found in these pages.

In great detail Cohen even covers Media Composer's film tools and methodology, giving newbies a primer in pulldown, how Filmscribe works, examining change, optical and cut lists, giving us potential problems to watch out for.

Cohen's personal philosophy of editing is as much an ingredient of the book as these concise explorations of the editing system. In explaining a wonderful section on how he personally sets up his system (and why), he explains, "The more you can free yourself from thinking about the machine, the more your focus will be on the material you're editing... every time you look down, you slow down."

FINAL THOUGHTS

As I went through the book, I realized the disparity we as editors, have in just how we get educated on the use of our systems. Some of us have the luxury of one-on-one professional editing tutors or classes, others go up through the ranks at facilities or organizations, but so many others are in the boondocks, isolated and far from schools or others who might impart their experience and wisdom. With the cost of the technology now so low and multiplying daily, it's to these isolated and geographically scattered editors that this book might be even more valuable... even though there is so much great info here that even the most experienced pro can benefit.

An unexpected benefit of this book is a new look of Media Composer as the highly developed, complex and innately flexible system it is.

Excellent for Pros and Newcomers alike

This is an excellent guide. Mr Cohen has produced an astonishing compendium of what's what with the Avid system. I can't recommend it enough.

How much mileage you get out of it will depend of course on your own knowledge; but writing as someone who has used MC for over ten years and is diligent about exploring computer interfaces thoroughly, I can honestly say that I still found something useful on every page.

Mr Cohen's book is not a comprehensive technical guide in the way that Avid's own manuals are. There are no endless cross-referenced procedural lists; no unfathomable indexes. Instead it feels like a private one-on-one, in which a very organised and experienced editor sits down and says, "Look, did you ever try this?... or this?..." It's really a boon to other editors to have someone like this walk you through the Avid interface in such detail.

Thankfully, the layout of the book is also excellent, which makes it a pleasure to browse through. There are no pages stuffed with boxes and variable fonts, which are often a blight on guides about computers and IT.

The content is organised into general themes (timeline/trims/media consolidation, so forth) so if you want to go straight to tips on timeline organisation, as I did, then it's all present in one chapter. Though I found some parts to be more eyeopening than others, everyone's experience and knowledge will be different. In this respect, I would ignore the reviewers on here who have nitpicked it for stating things they already knew. Mr Cohen intends his book for all Avid users, and as such it is accessible to Pros and newcomers alike.

Overall, a fantastic and much-needed book for editors, and a tremendous value.

The “Happily Ever After” Plan

Dating is for testing, doing research and asking your partner questions and watching their reactions, to determine if they are the right choice (fit) for your “forever” person. That person you can as Disney puts it live “Happily Ever After” with. It’s (the dating process) all part of our innate and natural mating rituals whether you’re conscious of it or not.
With the selection process out of the way, during your engagement more tests to your relationship are presented as to whether or not your dispositions mesh. Often times this is through the various upheavals within your family or friends whether it’s an illness, infidelity, divorces, engagements or just the family drama queen. All of this is thrown into the microcosm of your engagement and if both of you can weather that storm; you realize how blessed you are to have each other and continue toward your wedding day.
Just as you think you are home free, your patience is tested on your wedding day and wrongly you believe as long as you get through all of that, your marriage will be an oasis of love, understanding and fun. Or will it? Have you talked about the various parameters within your marriage? For instance, have you ascertained how each of you discusses loudly or fights? Do you know each one’s mechanism for making up? Do you know how few or many children you each desire? How many times during the week or month or quarterly you’d like to have sex, work on the budget, go grocery shopping or buy a big ticket item? Listen without something blaring in the background or showing on a 40+ inch screen.
First Year of Marriage is well researched and they offer examples from their own marriage to assist deeper understanding of using their tools in real-world situations. There are many books on the subject but some of them read like theorems conjured up in a laboratory. First Year of Marriage offers not only reading materials based on their research of their marriage and other peoples’ marriage, it is also your guidebook. Used as your self-guided written handbook within your own marriage, also a workbook to ultimately assist you in achieving your own specific handbook.
Does this sound like a lot of work to do on your marriage? First of all, get the idea of your working on your marriage out of your vocabulary and that you’re working within your marriage, to implement enhancements to your marriage together. Marcus and Ashley Kusi co-author this book on marriage and each gives some insight as to their motivation in the bio section: Marcus - ‘I'm a dedicated husband, passionate father, and love spending time with my family. I enjoy cooking, watching/playing sports, reading, and helping people achieve their goals in life and host the First Year Marriage podcast on iTunes. Ashley and I, have been committed to living a mutually happy marriage with equality and living a peaceful lifestyle since 2010.’ Ashley - I am an artist, author, marriage blogger, podcaster, stay at home mom, but most importantly wife and mother to two daughters. Together with my husband, I also help newlyweds adjust to married life. And married couples to improve their marriage. I love learning about marriage, clean living, and giving my family the healthiest life they can lead in all aspects of life, which is where breastfeeding naturally came into the picture. I tandem nurse my toddler and baby, practice gentle parenting, and considers myself a breastfeeding advocate and an activist.’

With that background and some introductory comments they open their book with – ‘As humans, we never realize how selfish we are until we get married and have to put someone else’s needs before our own wants. Sharing our life with someone can be a big adjustment; it was for us. When you get married most of those “I” statements change to “We” and “Us” statements. The fact of the matter is, when you are a single unmarried person you only have one person to think about, yourself. However, marriage changes it all; at least it should. You have now committed to spending your life with your spouse, so everything you do should be geared towards cultivating a lasting marriage. At each fork in the road you look through that lens and ask yourself, “Will this help or hurt our goal of a happy, healthy, and lasting marriage?”

This husband and wife team has proven their capabilities to stay together no matter what. .....they wrote a book together!

I applaud their success for they not only accomplished the writing of this book but made it interesting, very informative and useful.

They combine their knowledge of that all important need of building a firm and strong foundation for the first year of a marriage and they were able in this book to conveyed what they learned personally.

In their writing they conveyed the contrast between to different personalities and how they felt and the needs they had and the process that occurred in many different series of circumstances.

I wish it had been around to read for my first year of marriage. But I enjoyed the reading of it in my 48 year of marriage to the same sweet man. ~ and believe me you are never too young and definitely not too old .....and never passed learning. You can benefit greatly from reading this book.

I was give this book as a gift and I wanted to give you my honest thoughts on it.

About the Author

Steve Caplin is a graphic artist, illustrator, and journalist who loves to create images that blur the line between illusion and reality. His satirical photomontage work has been commissioned by newspapers and magazines around the world, including The Guardian, Men’s Health, and L’Internazionale, as well as advertising agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi. He is the author of many best-selling Focal Press books.

Kindle version is extremely frustrating

I'm changing my original 2 star review below to 4 stars. While I'm still very frustrated because the control characters are too small to read on a kindle, the material is too good for me to discourage people from reading this book. The material is excellent and I've learned a lot just from the text. Once you've outgrown the beginners Photoshop books this is a great book on more advanced techniques.

I'm really frustrated with the kindle version of this book. They symbols he uses for the control, alt, and shift keys are way too small to make out. If I ever get over being mad, I'll probably buy the paper version of the book. The content seems to be that good. Too bad it's not usable in this form

A great reference for PS CC

This book has so many good tips. I bought it for a class, didn't really end up needing it, but kept it anyways because it's a pretty good resource. I know we live in an age where we can just Google anything we have a question about, but sometimes it seems I can't quite word my inquiry properly and I'm left frustrated. This book fills in the gaps. As a side note, the accompanying videos are hilariously awful. They also contain good info, but the editing is quite amusing. I recommend this book if you are like me and prefer to have a physical reference available in addition to the Internet.
